With every season there is some expected turnover as player graduate and underclassmen make their way to the varsity team. Head coach Micala Anderson and the Lady Cougars have a few spots to replace, but they are loaded with seniors and appear ready to compete.
“We have a lot of seniors this year and we learned a lot last year; we are only replacing a few players in the varsity lineup. We have a tough league but are expecting to compete at a higher level this season,” said coach Anderson.
One of those seniors, Sydney Anderes, has been part of the starting lineup at South since her freshman season. This year Anderes looks to help lead this team and this senior class as they attempt to leave their mark on the program.
“Sydney is soon to be a four-year varsity player and libero at South High. She has great team leadership and volleyball knowledge, was honorable mention in the AVCTL and was selected as an All-County player for Saline County last season as well,” said coach Anderson.
Several other seniors are expected to contribute as well. Brooke Webb (S), Baylee Brin (MH), Addy Copeland (OH), Elena Herbel (OPP/OH), Lauren Harris (OH/OPP), Maddy Yost (DS), and Eva Elder (DS) are all ready to make their last season in high school one to remember.
Also look for juniors Hannah Householter (OPP/MH), Ava Lemaster (OPP/OH), and sophomore Tamia Cheeks (MH).
Together, this group believes they can have a great season, compete at a high level, and have some fun doing it.
