Q&A with Ell-Saline’s Keala Wilson – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Kaniper Agency

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals for this year are to finish my senior year strong and commit to finding the right fit to continue my athletic career at a college or university.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

I think looking back that the most fun I’ve had has been enjoying my senior year with my friends and family. It was really special to play for my dad the past 4 years and make memories with him.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

My favorite teacher ever from any grade is Mrs. Abker. She came to our school this year. She is always trying her best to teach us as much as possible and to prepare us for college. Not only does she care in the classroom but also outside of it. She comes to the extracurricular activities that she is able and shows her support for her students.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory would be from this year’s substate volleyball tournament. All of my teammates and I were fully prepared for this moment. We played the best we’d played all season long. In the championship game we played the number one 2A team closer than anyone else had all season and that anyone had in the following week at the state tournament.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

I have had multiple teammates throughout my entire career that have impacted me. Starting sports young and being a three sport athlete has given me the opportunity to play with many different teammates.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part about being on my volleyball team is the atmosphere. We all work together well and enjoy each other’s company. We want everyone to be successful in their positions so we all work together to help make sure that happens.

VYPE: You can pick any place for summer vacation. Where would you go, and who do you take with you?

I would go to our family cabin in Westcliffe, Colorado. I would bring my whole family. Westcliffe is a very peaceful place with not very many people. It is where my dad and his siblings grew up. I’ve always loved the mountains and hiking so I enjoy going there in the summers. I would bring my family because they all deserve a vacation from their busy lives to just relax and enjoy each other’s company.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

When I think of getting $500 to spend in 24 hours I think about how I’m not the type of person that needs or wants anything. If I had to choose, I would decide to share the money with other people. I would spend it on their wants and needs.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I participated in volunteering at the Salina Food Bank along with donating to a toy drive and food drive at our school. I Filled bags with napkins and silverware at the food bank along with filling Valentine’s Day gift bags for people. For the food drive I brought in canned goods. With the toy drive my school’s NHS delivered toys to the Ashby House and Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Salina.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I am involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). This is because I believe that all students should have a chance to believe in what I believe. I want to change lives in a positive way in my community and I feel this is a good way to do it.

VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?

At school I am the president of NHS, my class, and Student Council. I am also on the Honor Roll.
