Q&A with SE of Saline’s Nathan Friesen – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Farm Bureau Financial Services

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
I would like to grow as a player and a leader. Also I would like to rush for 1500 rushing
yards, and 200 receiving yards.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
My favorite memory was going on a cruise with my family. Started in Texas, and had a
five day cruise around the Gulf of Mexico. My favorite memory for football was the first game of the season vs Rock Creek. We practiced hard for it and it felt so good when we won.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
Mr. Settle, he is my Spanish and Seminar teacher. No matter the day, he is always
someone I can talk to. He also gives me really good advice.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory was the first playoff game last year against Haven. I had
like a couple yards and a couple touchdowns that game and it was really cool to see the
environment that Southeast of Saline had for the first playoff game of the season.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
The teammate that left the biggest impression on me last year was Luke Gebheart. I
was a new varsity starter last year and my confidence was not the best. During practice
and games, he helped me understand some of the plays and helped bring my
confidence to the level it should be during football.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part about being on the team is teamwork and the willingness to work hard
to get better. This summer we have had a lot of people show up to weights, scrimmages
etc. Ultimately strengthening the team as a whole. After the last game last year a lot of
my teammates and I got together almost daily to work out to make ourselves the best
we can be for this upcoming season.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who
do you take with you?

I don’t really care where I go. There is only one thing that I need on vacation. That is
unlimited food. I would take all of my linemen that will be blocking for me to make them
bigger.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what
would you spend it on?

I would probably go to Foot Locker and buy a really nice pair of shoes.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
Every year with my church we go to a different state and help some children or
communities that need help. Last year we went to Jacksonville, Tennessee. It is always
amazing to see a community or the children’s life change when we go down there.
