The senior Brin Hecker from Ell-Saline has set big goals for herself this year. “One goal of mine is to hit 1,200 career assists and get my serving percentage to 98 percent.” She not only has set goals for herself, but she also has set goals for the team. “My main goal is to bring my whole team together and keep all of our attitudes up and keep us all confident.”
Hecker plays outside hitter and setter and this season she is most looking forward to trying to reach her goal of 1,200 career assists. To prepare for this goal, Hecker has spent time in the off-season attending volleyball camps. Hecker told VYPE Magazine during the summer months, she has been working on tying to increase her vertical jump and to improve the quickness of her feet.
Last season, as a junior, Hecker had 454 assists. This is an accomplishment Hecker is proud of considering her team runs a 6-2. “Running a 6-2 is hard to get a lot of reps in so the amount of reps that turned to be assist is something I am proud of.”
While not playing volleyball for Ell-Saline, she is busy with plenty of other activities including basketball during the winter season, softball during the spring season, FFA, FCA, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. After graduation, Hecker hopes to attend a JUCO to play volleyball or softball. With the hopes of competing in a sport at a JUCO, Hecker will also be working towards her academic goal of becoming an ultrasound tech.
