Q&A with Salina Sacred Heart’s Avery Eshelman – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Vernon Jewelers

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

Surpass 1,000 career kills and 750 career digs. Have a 25 kill series.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

The Ellis tournament where my team was ranked 8th and placed 3rd in the tournament. We also had homecoming that night and had to get ready on the way home but it was so much fun!

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

My favorite teacher is Mr. Hines. He is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and a great coach as well. He also doesn’t assign much homework which is a blessing when you’re in his class!

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Playing on varsity as a freshman and having a 20 kill series.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Ellie Woodall. She showed up everyday and outworked everyone around her. She was every teammate’s biggest fan and cheerleader.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on this team would have to be the relationships that I have formed with all the girls from my school. Volleyball is such a team sport that it just brings everyone together and creates so many valuable friendships.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

I would go to Bora Bora and take my close family and friends.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

I would spend it on some cool new shoes and  food.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

Yes! One of the cool parts of being a student at Sacred Heart is that you have to get 25 service hours a year to meet the criteria. I have lettered in service for two years as well by getting 75 hours of service, with those hours being outside of school activities!
