Salina Sacred Heart’s Gracy Dorzweiler – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Kansasland Tire

Gracy Dorzweiler of Salina Sacred Heart’s cross country team has been training hard for her senior season. Dorzweiler has set her eyes on the big prize for her team. “One of the goals I am focusing on this year is getting our girls a state title. We all put in work over the summer and I think we have a fighting chance at winning state this year.” Not only does Dorzweiler want a win for her team, but individually she would like to place in the top 10 at state.

During the summer months, Dorzweiler participated in Huey Counts’ Distance Inc program and practices held by the coaches twice a week. Dorzweiler will surely be even more competitive this year with all her offseason training. At the state meet last year, she medaled as an individual for the first time, an accolade she should be proud of.

Dorzweiler shared how great her team is to practice with. “This season our team has gotten really close and it feels like a family. I look forward to every practice and meet because of them.” Not only does Dorzweiler enjoy her team, she enjoys her competitors for other schools. “It’s always fun getting to talk to competitors from other schools that I’ve become friends with over the years.”

In addition to cross country, Dorzweiler participates in track, SAFE, Jr Civitan, Fiat, and she is currently captain for her school’s leadership team. After graduation in the spring, Dorzweiler is planning on attending Washburn University. She will be on both the cross country and track teams. For her academic goals, she will be studying marketing and eventually going to law school.
