Q&A with Salina Sacred Heart’s Brady Wells – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Farm Bureau Financial Services

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals for running this year are to run a 17-minute 5k and place top 10 in the state.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
Spending time at the lake this summer as well as a trip to South Dakota with my family.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
Mr. Gormley, my high school English teacher. He’s a very good teacher and does so with a sense of humor. He makes it fun to learn.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
It would be hard to pick one as I enjoyed each of the state championship meets in cross country and track. The atmosphere and excitement are at another level for those meets which I really enjoy.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Jace Douglas who was a senior runner last year. I admired the effort he put forth in his athletics and academics. We really pushed each other to be better runners. My favorite memory with him was running at the state cross country race and both medaling. Also running at the state track meet.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
The comradery amongst boys and girls on our team has been great. All support each other and root for each other’s success.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
If I could pick anywhere, it would be Hawaii. The temperatures there are great and the scenery is beautiful. I would need a large airplane for all my family and friends who I would like to have with me. (I have a big family)

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
I would put it in savings toward a different vehicle. I guess if forced to spend it I would put gas in my car and treat my friends to a big dinner.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
As a requirement at our school, we need to participate in 26 service hours per year. Last year I participated in a variety of projects. I will do the same this year and my next project is planned for January where I’ll be volunteering at the Kansas Mission of Mercy hosted here in Salina.
