It has been almost 40 years since Salina Central has been to state cross country as a team. This year, Senior Emily Evans has set a goal for the team to make state. “My main goal is to hopefully help get the team to state. We have a good chance this year.”
Adams is taking her role as an encouraging senior seriously. She told VYPE she is hoping to encourage the younger runners and wants to see them improve and get better. In addition to her team improvement, Adams has spent time over the summer increasing her mileage by doing longer runs. To add strength to her running, Adams did weight lifting over the summer.
Something Adams was proud to share with VYPE was her PR’s. “I PR every single meet last year, besides regionals.” This is truly an accomplishment Adams can brag about. She shared about an injury she suffered from during track season and wasn’t able to run until two weeks before cross-country practice started last year. She came back strong from the injury and steadily improved her time throughout the season.
Adams keeps plenty busy outside of cross country. She is involved in two choirs. One of them is called Free Spirit in a central show choir. The other choir she is involved in is a large mixed group called Choraliers. She is involved in FFA at school. Outside of school, she is an active member of her church. After graduation, Adams wants to attend a college in Kansas and go into education.
