Consistency is the key for the Ell-Saline cross-country team. “Our expectations for this season, as they are every year is for our athletes to continue to improve, set higher goals, and work hard towards achieving the success we are striving for.” Stated the Cardinals’ head coach Tom Camien.
Two athletes leading the team by example coach Camien told VYPE about were Carson Fouard and Garrison Zerger. “They lead by example and have a great work ethic.” These two athletes show up work hard at practices and set and achieve goals during the season. Teammates can follow the example set by these two hard-working athletes. Fouard, a senior this year, will be a hard athlete to lose after this season’s end.
With these two athletes leading the team, success will come to those who follow this hard work ethic. Coach Camien shared how cross country is a hard sport and with that comes sacrifices. Athletes must buy into the hard work ethic for the success to follow. Coach Camien said, “Nothing comes easy in cross country so forcing yourself to compete through discomfort is a must.” Ultimately, the team will look at their success at the end of the season by gauging how much improvement the team or individual has made and the goals achieved. Coach Camien also told VYPE how important attitudes are for the future success of this team.
Coach Camien shared about the schedule for his team. Two meets the team looks forward to are The Wamego Invitational and Rim Rock Classic. Both of these two meets will give the team an idea of how they will stack up to the competition when it comes time for the state meet which is held towards the end of October.
