Carson Abbott, senior defender for Salina Central’s boys’ soccer team, came into this season with the goal of enjoying his final season. Despite his team’s struggles at times, Abbott said that he felt the season was a success. “Personally, I think the season has gone great. Even though we didn’t finish where we would have liked, I had fun playing every game and loved playing with my teammates,” he said, adding “I wouldn’t have done it with anyone else.”
Abbott struggled with an injury during his junior season, and said that his offseason was spent getting healthy and ready for the season. The injury kept him from running track, but he was able to recover and finish his career as a 4-year varsity letterman, an accomplishment he said was one he was most proud of, the other being named team captain. He offered a glowing endorsement of his teammates when asked about his favorite part of being on the team.
“My favorite part of being on this team is just being with my teammates on and off the field. Some of my best memories come from just hanging out and being with these guys. They make me want to relive every practice and game no matter the outcome,” Abbott said. He also added, “We were a better team than last year, but luck just didn’t fall our way.”
Abbott plans to attend Kansas State University after high school and major in engineering.
