Salina Central’s Madilynn Crough – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Larissa Silva

Salina Central softball team is gearing up for the start of their season. Senior Madilynn Crough who plays center field is ready to get on the field and soak up the memories made with her teammates. This year the goal for the team is to go all out by coming together as a team and working hard every single day for the dubs!

This year Salina Central is competing against some new competition like Dodge City and Clay Center. Crough told VYPE she was looking forward to competing against these teams since they never have competed before.

Gearing up for the season, Crough was found during the summer months on the softball field with the team Motley Crue. Her team started winter workouts in early January. In addition, Crough has spent extra time focusing on hitting this year leading up to the spring season.

Some softball stats for Crough last year were a batting average of .400 and fielding was .950. “When I first came to the program, I was a right-handed hitter and played middle infield with maybe 10% knowledge of the game, but with really good speed. Coach Waldron changed the game for me. She used my speed in a way I never knew you could. One day at practice she pulled me aside and showed me how to slap, and that has become my forte.” Crough gives a lot of credit for her game to her coaches. Between pep talks and placing players in the best positions, Crough knows she is the player she is today because of her coaches.

Crough is still undecided for her plans after graduation this spring. When she is not on the softball field, she will can be found working at her job.
