Senior shortstop from Salina South High School is excited to hit the field for his final season of baseball for The Cougars. Although Howard primarily plays shortstop, he is versatile and can play anywhere he is needed on the field.
Howard is holding himself and his team to high expectations this season with the main goal of making State. “Last year we fell short, so I’m going into this season with no lesser expectations than to make it there.” Howard’s expectations set for himself are just as high. “My main goal for myself is to simply play to the level I know I can play at, each and every game.”
With South’s schedule allowing more games this season, Howard is looking forward to playing 26 games instead of 20 games. With a new schedule, this also means new teams that South has not played before. To prepare for this upcoming competition, Howard spent many hours during the offseason in the weight room.
“This last offseason my main focus was in the weight room. I knew to compete well at the next level I had to get stronger, so I did just that.”
While not spending time on the baseball field, Howard keeps plenty busy. All four years of high school Howard has competed in basketball for The Cougars. He is also a member of Kitt Krew for football games, as well as a para for special education for the last two years. Howard is a member of NHS at Salina South.
After graduation in May, Howard plans to attend Cloud County Community College and to continue playing baseball and majoring in business.
