For Isaiah Garrett, this season at Bennington High School is about making the most of every final moment. The senior guard is embracing his last opportunity to suit up alongside teammates he has battled with for years. “Having one last season with the guys” is what means the most to Garrett, who has developed into a key contributor for the Bulldogs.
As a junior, he averaged 14 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game, showcasing his all-around ability and impact on both ends of the floor.
Over the summer, Garrett attended several camps focused on helping him transition into more of a true guard role. He worked to tighten his ball-handling and perimeter skills, while also aiming to become a more consistent outside shooter. Although he admits that becoming the shooter he hoped to be “didn’t fully fall into place,” his dedication to improvement reflects his commitment to the team’s success.
Garrett’s biggest goal this season was simple: a winning record. With experience and leadership, he hoped to help guide Bennington toward a strong finish and leave the program in a better place.
Basketball isn’t the only sport where Garrett shines. He also runs track and was part of Bennington’s state championship 2A 4×100-meter relay team last year, adding a state title to his list of accomplishments.
After graduation, Garrett plans to attend Manhattan Area Technical College if basketball doesn’t work out, though he is still exploring opportunities to continue playing at the next level. No matter the path, Garrett’s competitive drive will continue to push him forward.
