Weston Fries of Salina South was chosen as the American Family Insurance Athlete of the Month. Last season, Fries threw for 1,594 yards and 13 touchdowns. Fries is excited to get out on the field one last time with his team.
“I’m looking forward to the season to be able to go out with my guys for one more year and to have fun and make memories one last time,” Fries said. “I’m looking forward to seeing us compete every week and hopefully make a run for our last season.”
Fries has great expectations for himself and the team, hoping to walk away with a winning record at the end of the season.
“I want to take more care of the ball, and when our defense awards me with a stop to be able to go down and put points up on the board,” Fries said. “The expectations I have are to be the best leader I can, and make plays to help my team succeed. As a team I hope we can get a couple more wins under our belt and become an all around better team.”
Fries has been using the offseason as a learning period, making sure he knows all the ways to help his team succeed.
“We have been in the weight room and working on perfecting our craft during the week,” Fries said. “All of us are working on knowing the whole playbook inside and out.”
While still undecided on where, Fries does plan on continuing his baseball career after high school.
