Nunez has loved being a part of a team with “very good chemistry” and “the feeling of family and community.” As it made “the games, practices, and get-togethers outside of soccer very enjoyable and memorable.”
Among those memories, Nunez names his favorite, which has been “saving a pk in my first regular season varsity game my sophomore year; we later won the game 1-0. I felt great because the team was very happy with me, especially since the expectations as a sophomore were not very high.”
Of course, that may have had something to do with his impactful teammate “Luke Matto,” who spent the following two years teaching and mentoring Nunez. Saying Matto “helped me learn more about the position of goalkeeper and more about coaching in general.”
Something which Nunez clearly hopes to do for someone else via his involvement in “Soccer-fest.” Which is “a radio show hosted soccer camp. The kids come to play soccer, and then we eat lunch and play some other games. This year I was lucky enough to help coach, set up, and run games.”
Nunez will continue to focus on soccer even after graduation as he “will be an ASC scholar at Newman University” while “assimilated into the college academic and athletic lifestyle.”
