Salina South’s Erik Franco – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Salina Regional Sports Medicine

By Angela Brunk

Salina South’s Erik Franco will continue to strengthen the offensive line this fall for South’s football program. As a returning varsity team member, Franco received Second Team honors last year as a Sophomore, and will continue to add strength and depth to the team not only physically but also mentally. Franco stated receiving second team honors as a Sophomore was an accomplishment he was proud of.

Franco has been busy during the offseason by working on his speed and on a positive mindset. “I have gotten a bit lighter so I am now able to move quicker and react faster. Trying to keep a positive attitude/mindset can be quite hard despite losses, but slowing down and acknowledging my problems is helping a lot and hopefully I can go into the season like this.”

With this new mindset, Franco is ready to take on big challenges, and he is looking forward to this season’s rival game against local school Salina Central. Franco stated, “I feel like I have learned so much more and gotten stronger than the last time we played them.” Last season, Central came away with the victory, but this could be the game to watch with Franco’s new mindset.

When not playing football, Franco likes to go fishing and lift weights. Future plans for the Salina South star include attending college for software engineering. Although he is undecided of which college to attend after graduation, Franco still has two more years with the Cougars, and will be a strong force to be reckoned with in the meantime.
