Senior Kendyl Gary is starting this season being the team’s libero. Last season as a junior, Gary started out the season as a setter, but moved to the libero in the middle of the season. She is setting her goals high this year for her position as libero because her goal is to “focus on placing my passes right to the setter’s spot.” Another goal she has set for herself is to improve on her serves. “A goal I have for this season is having a more powerful jump serve.”
Salina Central is no stranger to the town rival of Salina South, a game Gary is most looking forward to. “Every year it is one of our biggest games because it is both of the Salina teams against each other.” Hays is another team Gary is looking forward to. “We lost to Hays in our substrate game last year and we are ready to come back this season and beat them.”
Gary used her time in the off season to keep her training up. During the winter season, she played on a club team. Over the summer, she did a lot of workouts to make herself stronger. During last year’s season, Gary had 100 assists, 31 aces, 26 kills, and 231 digs. After some impressive stats from last season, Gary’s training should help her make her stats more exceptional.
During the winter season, Gary will play basketball for the Mustangs, and during the spring, Gary competes in track and field. She also does weight lifting. Once Gary graduates from high school, she would love to play volleyball in college, and will study to become an occupational therapist.
