Q&A with Salina Sacred Heart’s Lauryn Mikkelson – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Eccentricity

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals for the year are to set new PRs and help get my team to state.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
When my Track team won Regionals, it was super exciting and unexpected and we had a lot of fun getting to that point.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Plymell from Freshman year earth science. She was so helpful but also pushed me to do more than I thought I was capable of.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory was when my 4×800 team won state my sophomore year.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Emma Roberts. She convinced me to do Cross Country my 8th grade year. She has had some medical issues but has stayed the most positive and the most reliable teammate you could ask for.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
The best part of being on the team is that you meet people you never would have met and they have taught me how to push myself past my limits.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
I would go hiking in Montana to see all the Mountain View’s and nature. I would take my mom, sister, and best friend.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
I would get new running watch and some running clothes.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
I volunteer at Catholic Charities and make hygiene bags and food boxes. I also volunteer at my church.
