SE Saline’s Maddie Harris – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Spencer Cleaning

By Ken Hansard
The Southeast of Saline girls’ basketball team finished last season with a loss to Phillipsburg in the 3A Sub-State championship game. The Trojans were riding a 19-3 record going into the game, after finishing league play in a first place tie in the competitive NCAA. Senior point guard Maddie Harris was a major part of that success.

With a wealth of returners, the Trojans are hoping to be able to duplicate, or maybe improve on, last year’s success. Harris states, “I am really looking forward to playing with my senior teammates this year. The three of us have been playing together since we were four, and I love being on the court with them. I love that we are going to have a balanced team this year.”

Harris appears to relish her leadership role as a senior: “I think that my role on this team is to be a great leader and teammate. I see my role as someone who will guide the younger girls, and as the person who sets the tone of the game.”

In the fall, Harris was the cross-country manager. A catcher for the Trojans softball team in the spring, Maddie has been named First Team All-League (NCAA) her first three years of high school. Outside of sports, Harris is a National Honors Scholar, the SAFE Club President, and a member of Science Club.

Harris plans to attend Kansas State University next year and is leaning towards a major in nutrition and fitness.
